The Committee for County Progress (CCP) of Jackson County Missouri and its background

The Committee for County Progress of Jackson County (CCP)

The Committee for County Progress of Jackson County, Missouri was formed in 1964 to recruit screen and support progressive candidates for county and state offices and take a leadership role in promoting needed public improvement issues. In its early days, CCP fielded slates of progressive county candidates, backed bond issues and ballot measures, and provided a voice for reform-minded, progressive government. In the mid-1980's, CCP led a petition drive to amend the County Charter to reduce the size of the County Legislature from 15 to nine members. Voters approved the amendment by 71 percent and a new tone of accountability was set.

In the past several years, CCP has enjoyed a renewal of its commitment to an active and progressive role in the public and political life of Jackson County, the State of Missouri, and the country. CCP has hosted Democratic candidate and issue education debates, has been a source for voter protection efforts each cycle, and has worked to promote candidates and causes that reflect our core belief that fair and responsive government is the obligation of each of us. Guided by a diverse membership of over 150 people from all across Jackson County, CCP counts itself as one of Jackson County's key players when it comes to providing political leadership, a forum for education and exchange, and voice demanding excellence in public service. That commitment has made the CCP endorsement for candidates in county and state races highly coveted, as is its support of its endorsed candidates. The CCP also works to place members on state boards and commissions in order to assure Jackson County representation at the state level.
